We (my family and I) were visiting Disneyland in late June this year. We stumbled across Captain Maynard at the Astro orbiter. Our whelm was overed. Our ghast was flabbered we were bowled over in short gobsmacked (thats a little British saying gob=mouth smacked=couldn’t talk).

He was great!

He was fun to talk to and very entertaining, he certainly earned his weekly salary.

Seriously he should be doing voiceover’s for Disney Movies. In our humble opinion he was very much a contender to Robin Williams.

Anyhow we had a great time and made more memorable by the meeting of that nutter Maynard. He would make an excellent representative of Disney.

Please forward our best wishes to him and tell him to keep on trucking.

All best wishes from the UK.
Adrian (me), Eve (my wife), Elena (my seven year old daughter), Tania(my four year old daughter), Stan (my dad) and June (my mum).

I was planning a trip for Disneyland in January and was trying to find something to do that I haven’t done before and I found all the info on Maynard. I read all the little stories and saw the pictures and decided my goal was to find him. Well I was on my third day there and with no sight of him I gave up. A little disappointed I got in line for the jungle cruise. I was getting close to the front when I heard laughing right in front of me and a cast member squeezed right in front of me. Finally! It was Maynard with plastic bugs all over him. He had asked a lady to put her hand out and when she did he put a wind-up beetle in her hand, played the harmonica and danced around while the beetle danced in her hand. Instantly the whole line was in a riotous laughter. I asked for a picture and he politely posed with his bugs, but unfortunately the flash didn’t go off. It’s amazing how one person can heighten your experience in just a few minutes. Hopefully other cast members will take notes, because he is the epitome of the reason we all go to Disneyland.

Just a note about my first (and, unfortunately, only) encounter with Maynard.

Two summers ago, me, my wife and my two kids, 6 and 3 at the time, hit Disneyland for 5 days. This gave us a chance to really explore and catch rides at different times, with different experiences (imagine NO line at Indiana Jones!).

On our way out one night, we decided to stop off at the Jungle Cruise just to see it at night. And there was Maynard, signing and joking and having a great time. So we got on.

I’m usually a good audience for Jungle Cruise skippers anyway, because I laugh heartily at nearly everything, but he was wild. And he chose my daughter to be skipper the boat, so it was the night of her life.

He made jokes I’ve never heard before (and I’ve visited countless times) and had great fun with the dark.

At the end of the ride, he gave my daughter a certificate saying she skippered the boat, and he posed for one of his wild-look photos. It was one of the best times we ever had at Disneyland.

I want to thank him for going the extra mile.

Just got back from D-Land and only because my journey was completed about 6:15 this evening… I found Maynard but not at any of the stated places on the MAynard website but rather working the control booth at the Astral Orbitor. His spiel while the ride was going was hilarious and as I was walking to an area that I could possibly get a good angle for a picture I did not even have to look to see if it was him, all I had to do was listen to the voice of the PA system. Got the angle for a picture, waited and got the picture in the pose I seem to have seen Maynard in quite a few pictures for the website plus got the autograph book signed with an always humorous message… so thought I would pass that info on…

Hello,

You can add me and my wife, Kitty Baran, to the list of people that would like to join a Maynard Fan Club ASAP.

We now live in Carson City, NV but we used to live in So. Cal. At that time, I worked for Buena Vista Home Video the Disney Video arm in Burbank. One of the perks was a Silver Passport to the park. We first bumped into the Evil Twin when a friend of ours was visiting from Australia and he made her visit to the Mansion very memorable. We noticed that he was very visible on the morning news on KTLA during the Halloween day festivities, and we generally kept an eye out for him.

Disney has a family Christmases party each year, which at that time was a two-night affair. I would volunteer to work one of the nights (which none D-land employees could do) and then go with my wife the other night. One of the Christmases I worked the old jet rocket ride, and who should show up but Maynard. I picked him out right away and told him what a fan we were and how great he had made the visit of our Aussie friend. He seemed rather embarrassed by the attention.

Last August we made a special trip to LA to see the new Tomorrow Land. Whom should we bump into at the new rockets but Maynard? He was doing a great shtick about ‘The Monkey Planet’ and generally keeping the queue entertained. We said hello and had a quick conversation that included the information about your website. It has taken awhile but here I am at last. I’ve already sent the link to Australia!

I would love to see a story by Maynard of ‘The Monkey Planet’ saga.

Thanks for keeping this up,
Mike & Kitty

My sister and I were intent on finding the “Hidden Mickey” in the Haunted Mansion. On our first visit to the Mansion, we questioned the cast member letting people into the foyer. We had no idea at that time who Maynard even was! He gave us a cryptic response and we vowed we’d find it on the next go-round. On our next turn in the Mansion we found another cast member who told us where to look. Upon entering our Doom Buggy we saw the first cast member (Maynard) and told him we knew where to look now. He said “Your secret is safe with me” (?) and went to help others board. Unbeknownst to us, he had skipped over the conveyor belt, poked his head around to my sister’s side of the buggy and yelled the most SINISTER boo-sounds we had ever heard! We both nearly jumped out of the buggy in fright! It was not until we got home and started reading about Maynard on the internet that we realized who we had come up against! What a great guy! He makes your Disney experience even more special! Can’t wait to go back this year and see where he is!

After our first encounter with “Evil Maynard” last year then reading about him on the internet, we were most anxious to find him this year. Hoping for a visit with one of his twins, imagine our delight at being entertained by “Professor Maynard”, “Jungle Maynard” AND “Space Maynard” over a week-long foray into Disneyland!!! On our very first day in the park we went to the “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience” attraction and there at the podium welcoming guests to sit in the “cushy, squishy chairs” was Maynard!!! We waved from the back row and shouted his name to which he replied “welcome, crazy people in the back!” Afterwards, he was collecting the “golden goggles of happiness” and we were able to get pictures with him. It was amazing because we seemed to be the only ones around who knew who he was and he treated us like him own private audience, singing one of his crazy songs and totally entertaining us! It was awesome! The very next day as we were walking through Tomorrowland past the Astro Orbitor a very familiar voice came over the attraction’s speaker – lo and behold – SPACE MAYNARD!!! My sister and her daughter, Kelsie, boarded a rocket after saying “hi” to Maynard and he came to their rocket and saluted them to send them off. When the rockets started up he got back on the speaker and said this squadron was being let by Commander Kelsie from the planet Yogurt then went into this long story about the Monkey planet! Afterwards, he came over to us again, signed Kelsie’s autograph book, complete with illustration of “Space Maynard” and those words of wisdom….”Spam is tasty, yes, but it makes a messy hat!” Two days later we decided we had to find him again and after checking with other cast members discovered he was on the jungle cruise. We asked to be on his boat and soon here he came, complete with leaves in his hat, tarantula on one shoulder and alligator on the other! He was amazed we were able to locate him! He did the best jungle cruise schtick and awarded a kid he let “drive” the boat the “golden leaf of bravery” at the end. Once again, we seemed to be the only “Maynard” nuts around and he entertained us for at least 15 minutes. This guy is one in a million and makes the happiest place on earth even more special! Everyone should have the “Maynard Experience” upon visiting Disneyland!

I went to Disneyland on a Teusday in the middle of June. We were tired from walking around all day and decided to relax by going to the “Hunny, I shrunk the audience” show. We were in line to get our goggles and go wait in the waiting area when he stopped us, we would be the first few people in the next group. We were just standing there when he started acting really wierd (he was normal to the people in front of us, but when we got there it was like another personality). We were just like “ok….” at first, but then he started acting just like one of our friends in our group, so we said, “Look, Ben! It’s your dad!” And when Ben got up there to get a better look at what was going on there were doing a lot of the same things (characteristics-wise). So now every time we go (which is usually on Teusdays) we yell his name when we go on Space Mountain and ask the people working at “Hunny, I shrunk the audience” if he’s working that day and where. It seems really wierd that he would remember all of us, especially since i found out he had a fan club, but whenever we yell his name and run to say hi, he acts the same way he did when we first met him, and i could almost swear he remembers each of us…

He’s really cool and those who haven’t met him and are just surfing the web and find places like this, they should go meet him the next time they go to Disneyland. So if you haven’t met him yet, go ask where Maynard is (they usually know exactly who you’re talking about, and i think they make a point of knowing where he is when he’s working…) and make a point to take time out of your day there to meet him. I swear, it’s a real tie between him and the mountains for which is the coolest thing at Disneyland. But definately all are worth your time…
